After seeing the Columbus Zoo Animal Illustrations on Instagram, I received a commission from the team at Adobe Discover to create another zoo animal illustration (this time with my favorite animal) along with a “how-to” and a brush giveaway.

Everyone copes with loss in their own way.
I tend to lean into it. Accept it for what it is. Cry a lot. Mourn the loss. Do my best to remember and celebrate the good times.
Scout was not your average dog. She was head of hospitality at our studio. Always looking for snuggles and a good tummy rub. Loved by everyone she greeted when they came to the studio. She was my shadow.
She loved to walk, hike and run. She was an explorer – a ten-pound trailblazer.
The day after her passing. I couldn’t work. So, I went to a place she loved— a nature path at Whetstone Park. Seeing the falling yellow leaves and the sound of creek were theraputic. I gathered bark, nuts, stones, and sticks, hand-printed and digitized them to create this versatile, outdoor-inspired Illustrator brush set.
A few days later, her paw prints arrived in the mail. The brush set wouldn’t be complete without them.
I used the brushes to illustrate Scout with a case of the zoomies, living her best life, and enjoying the fresh air.
I hope you’ll find this versatile, outdoor-inspired brush set to be a regular “go-to” for all of your illustration and design projects.
A lot of care and tears when into making them.
In loving memory of Scout (2009-2022)

This workshop uses our self-published children’s book Chin Up, Chinchilla as the case study for how we successfully crowd-funded a creative project on Kickstarter in under 5 days and how you can find creative side-projects that align with your unique self, natural talents, and world-changing goals.
This workshop covers:
Looking within yourself to find the perfect side project
Lessons learned—the good and the bad
The importance of getting input from others and how to handle criticism
The value of partnering with someone who has similar goals
Setting realistic expectations and recognizing the true reason for beginning a side project
Worksheet and exercise to help attendees determine a unique, memorable and personal side project.
This workshop is best when given by Jeremy (illustrator) and Beth (Author) but can be given by either of us if constraints don’t allow.
New Work: TAKOREA
Started in a ghost kitchen for delivery only, TAKOREA has a new home in their own brick and mortar restaurant.
The rebrand is an opportunity to make a splash as they introduce their food to the neighborhood.
In a sea of restaraunt logos based on the Korean Flag (including their own), we decided to take a different approach.
BIRTH OF THE TAKO TIGER
Something Familiar
The tiger’s head is depicted in the recognizable shape of a taco (or “tako” in this case). It symbolizes the fusion of traditional Korean flavors and fresh ingredients with the shape of traditional Mexican faire.
Something Wild
The tiger is strongly associated with Korean culture and is seen as representative to the identity of Koreans. Tigers in Korea are a symbol of strength and power and often seen as the guardian spirit and protector of the Korean people. Tigers are often featured in many Korean folktales and stories.
Something Traditional
Traditional Korean ornamentation is unique in Asia as it relies on circles, mono-weight lines and symmetry. We considered these traits as influence for how we rendered the logo.
Make it your own
TAKOREA’s food starts with the freshest ingredients but you get to choose how it all comes together.
You get to make it your way. There’s nothing that says “make it yours” like stickers. You see them on laptops, car tailgates and wrapped around your favorite Thermoflask. You can tell a lot about a person by what stickers they choose to identify with. Creating stickers from the logo also cuts down on waste and gives TAKOREA a way to customize existing sustainable packaging in a cost-effective way.
“Thanks for the awesome logo!! Slagle Design was very flexible with my budget as well as my schedule.”
–Kevin Kim, Owner, TAKOREA

Walking the streets is a great way to experience an area's culture. It’s there that the poor and the rich walk alongside each other. Jeromy’s photos immerse the viewer into cultures all over the world. Every human has a story worth hearing - regardless of their power, wealth, race, or status. When you allow yourself to break down the barriers that may have been instilled in you to not talk to strangers, you might find that you have more in common with others than you realized.
About Jeromy:
Jeromy brings his experience, caring heart and creativity to the forefront in his role as founder - and namesake - of Laux Creative. When not directing or documenting the world photographically, he enjoys a good pipe of tobacco, sunny afternoons spent at a brewery, and sharing time with his supportive wife Anna, an employee at the James Cancer Hospital. He loves meeting people and building new relationships, as he lives his personal motto every day: love everyone always.
Relient k, Um Yeah
My favorite gift came early this year when Relient K’s social media sprung back to life announcing a nationwide tour!
In the Slagle Family, there are very diverse opinions when it comes to music but we can all agree when it comes to listening to these fellas on a road trip and you'll catch us all singing along. Cannot wait to see them again in concert! Thanks for sharing your gifts with your fans!
Here’s a fun little illustration to celebrate the news!
